OctaveAPI For Relativity: Streamlining the eDiscovery Process

This post was published in April 2017.

More and more, law firms are using multilingual eDiscovery tools to sift through foreign language documents in legal cases.

Often times, legal teams need to examine thousands of multilingual documents to see what pertains to a case, searching through reams of text in order to find what they’re looking for. In most cases, law offices need to use a mixture of human and machine translation to identify the necessary information.

In January, United Language Group (ULG) announced its release of OctaveAPI, a multilingual eDiscovery solution that integrates with Relativity, kCura’s eDiscovery software.

ULG’s OctaveAPI for Relativity integrates our powerful language translation services with the cutting-edge capabilities of Relativity, adding effectiveness and efficiency to the eDiscovery process. We’re excited about this new tool, and will be hosting a webinar showcasing its features on May 4, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. CDT.

Below, we’ll run through some of the benefits OctaveAPI for Relativity offers to clients concerned with time and cost efficiency.

Machine Translation

Using OctaveAPI for Relativity allows law firms to access all of their eDiscovery needs in one, integrated platform. Our eDiscovery connector creates an all-in-one environment that facilitates automation and client-specific workflows.

With OctaveAPI for Relativity, users can send files to the secure ULG domain for either Machine Translation (MT) or human translation. Clients can negotiate machine and human translation rates beforehand, so they do not have to wait for AM/PM approval; they only view the estimate and send the request. Our MT systems will produce translated content within hours of submission, and the files will automatically be uploaded to the Relativity interface for analysis.

Clients can use the MT function when they need a large volume of documents translated quickly to aid keyword search. They can then easily send the text to human translators to decipher ambiguous or nuanced text.

Automated Workflows

Once a user opts for human translation, these files are automatically packaged and sent for quoting by the ULG Relativity plugin. When translation has been completed, the translated content will be viewable alongside its foreign language source document. Clients can also toggle between machine-translated files and source content, as well.

The OctaveAPI connector comes with Language Identification (LI), which is installed along with the application on the client side. LI lets users quickly see what languages need to be translated, and the user’s selected keywords are then applied to the translated document. This gives law firms the ability to search for certain words or phrases in a text in multiple languages.

Detailed Reporting

Mining through massive datasets is time consuming and tedious. That’s why ULG’s OctaveAPI for Relativity has incorporated multiple reporting options for clients who are working on tight budgets and timelines. With ULG’s OctaveAPI connector, users can view real-time project status updates, detailed cost and language breakdown reporting and receive progress notifications.

These language reports allow firms to identify what needs to be translated and analyze whether MT or human translation is their best option.

Multilingual Investigations Made Easy
