United Language Group Celebrates New San Antonio Language Center

On Thursday, February 28, United Language Group (ULG) will celebrate the opening of its new language center in San Antonio, Texas. Representatives from the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will join United Language Group executives and employees in a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open ULG’s tenth global office. To date, the San Antonio Language Center has brought more than 100 jobs to the region with plans for continued expansion.

“At United Language Group, we have a mission of creating a world in which language is no longer a barrier,” says ULG CEO, Kristen Giovanis. “San Antonio’s diverse community and representation in the health care industry – one sector with a high-volume need for over-the-phone-interpretation services, makes it a perfect location for a language center to serve customers around the world.”

The San Antonio Language Center will serve as a hub for providing Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) services to ULG clients, with a special focus on medical interpreting. Medical interpretation is a rapidly expanding industry that is increasingly impacting health outcomes for people with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). San Antonio boasts a bilingual population that is more than 15% higher than the national average, making it an ideal location for the new language center. ULG’s OPI interpreters are required to complete 40 hours of training in cultural competency and regulatory compliance before they can begin taking calls. The San Antonio Language Center will initially house 70 stations for Over the Phone Interpreting (OPI) and 10 Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) stations for spoken language and American Sign Language interpretation.
