Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A: Some of my favorite hobbies are knitting and riding my Peloton. Mamaciclista is my Peloton leaderboard name! I also make time for weekly Italian lessons which is an activity that I really enjoy.
This year, I’ve also been working in collaboration with other industry experts to write a remote interpreting textbook that will be released in 2020 – it’s definitely been a passion project of mine!
Q: How long have you been with ULG?
A: I have been with ULG for just over a year. I started out as the Director of Quality for Interpretations, and I was promoted to my current position in the fall of 2019.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job? Why?
A: My favorite part of my job is advocating for and ensuring quality language access for non-English speaking communities. I feel grateful and humbled to support authentic communication while also advocating for the advancement of the interpreting profession.
Last month I had the honor of co-hosting a webinar discussing remote interpreting in the healthcare industry (you can still view it here!). Ensuring quality interpretation in healthcare settings is an important topic to me, and I’m thankful to be in a position where I can be part of that bigger conversation.
Q: Why did you decide to work in the interpretation industry?
A: I started learning American Sign Language as a child and quickly realized I wanted to be an interpreter. As my career evolved, it became clear to me that my heart is in quality language access advocacy.
While I love being an interpreter, I feel my voice is best used to elevate language access and support those providing language access.
Thanks for joining us for this month’s edition of Meet the Team. Come back next month to learn more about another ULG employee.
