Welcome back for another edition of our Meet the Team blog!
In this month of Meet the Team, we are featuring Katie Gifford, a member of our Human Resources team. Katie is a Talent Acquisition and Project Manager based in Minnesota.
We caught up with Katie to learn a little more about her.
Check out her responses below to learn about her array of hobbies and what makes working for ULG so fascinating.
Q: What do you like to do outside of the office?
A: My hobbies and interests change frequently. A few months ago, I was enthralled with crocheting large, heavy and just massive blankets and making essential oil-based candles. A few months prior to that, I was really into my plants (I still am, now that I think about it). I water my plants with my betta fish's (his name is Mustard, as he is a gasoline mustard betta fish if you cared how the name came to fruition) aquarium water. When I take a shower or bathe, I take ALL my plants in the house with me into the shower, so they can absorb the steamy/warm air. Ask me 6 months from now and I will probably have identified a new hobby to add to my arsenal.
Q: How long have you been with ULG?
A: I have been running around ULG as of May 2017. I started as a Corporate Recruiter and evolved into where I am today, Talent Acquisition and Project Manager.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job? Why?
A: It depends on the day, but it boils down to really enjoying frequent change. Some days, I really enjoy interviewing and recruiting, while the next day I am enjoying creating a Mardi Gras party at the office, the following day I may be absorbed into analyzing data and gathering information. My job and this organization allows me to be a Jane of all trades and a master of none, which is enthralling to me.
Q: Why did you decide to work in the translation industry?
A: Well, quite frankly, the stars just kind of aligned that way. I graduated the University of Minnesota with a Communications degree, as I knew I wanted a degree, but didn’t know in what. I knew I loved to talk, so thought, let us give this communications degree a shot. I graduated, got a staffing/sales job and honestly, hated it, but I really enjoyed talking to everyone and meeting people. I ended up meeting someone that worked at ULG and they told me about what ULG does and I was so interested, as it’s an organization that focuses on how people communicate with one another and ensures they can keep communicating with another. Next thing I knew, I quit my job and a few weeks later started at ULG and never looked back. I now have a job that marries my passion of communicating to make the world more connected when they communicate.
